Non-Normal Night Shift - Invercargill - Christchurch

VATNZ's March edition of Non Normal Night Shift takes us to the southernmost controlled airport in the country, Invercargill.

Non-Normal Night Shift is our way of changing up your weekly Saturday event by visiting somewhere different.

It might be a simple change in route, or it might be something completely out of the ordinary.

With full ATC along the way, it's a great way to relax on your Saturday evening.

Starring the southernmost controlled aerodrome in the country, March's Non-Normal Night Shift takes us between Invercargill and Christchurch.

We are going to depart from Invercargill and make the 45 minute trip to the Canterbury city of Christchurch, if you wish you can request an approach for the shorter Runways 11/29 in Christchurch and see how short you can stop. Or fly one of the complex curved RNAV RNP Approaches testing your accuracy.

Invercargill is a procedural airspace, meaning there is no radar and the controllers rely on position reports to separate aircraft, make sure you are confident with your position reporting for this airspace.

One way not enough? Why not fly a shuttle route and turn around your aircraft in either Christchurch or Invercargill to fly the return leg? With the route only taking 45 minutes to an hour each way you can fly 3 or 4 legs in short time.
