Our first June Fly-in at Motueka Aerodrome!
Friday Night Fly-Ins are designed to bring the experience of a General Aviation fly-in to VATSIM. While we can't simulate the fun that fly-in's provide once you arrive, we can certainly provide the fun experience of actually flying in.
These events will be moving around airports in NZ and could be Controlled and Un-controlled airports but the flying is primarly focused on VFR flying.
Fly-in time is scheduled for 8:30pm NZ time, (0830 UTC) so plan to arrive at Motueka around then.
Located in the Nelson/Tasman Bay region, Motueka is a busy little aerodrome home located about 15 nauticle miles north west of Nelson. Motueka operates of a 781m long seal 02/20 and a 733m long grass 02/20. Motueka is the home of one of the big flights schools in New Zealand, Nelson Aviation Academy and is also home to some adventure aviation operations including sky-diving.
Your best short flights would be the quick hop over from Nelson (NZNS), or from Lake Station (NZLE) or Takaka (NZTK). Longer options include flying up from Westport (NZWS) or over from Woodbourne (NZWB). Motueka is VFR only so if you want to do IFR you could IFR into Nelson then proceed VFR over to Motueka.
After arriving, be sure to stick around to watch and listen to the other traffic coming in and out for the airport for the event, then why not pick a different airport to depart to and enjoy the fantastic scenery the area has to offer.
ATC
ATC for Core positions will be rostered on by the Events Director for Friday Fly-in events.
This decision was made due to the high interest in controlling and limited positions available.

Motueka is an uncontrolled aerodrome covered directly above by Christchurch Control from 9500ft and nearby from Nelson tower. Both will be staffed for the event.
