The last Friday Fly-in for April is going to be at Takaka!
Friday Night Fly-Ins are designed to bring the experience of a General Aviation fly-in to VATSIM. While we can't simulate the fun that fly-in's provide once you arrive, we can certainly provide the fun experience of actually flying in.
These events will be moving around airports in NZ and could be Controlled and Un-controlled airports but the flying is primarly focused on VFR flying.
Fly-in time is scheduled for 8:30pm NZ time, (0830 UTC) so plan to arrive at Takaka around then.
Located in the fantastic Golden Bay region, Takaka (NZTK) is a small uncontrolled airfield located about 5km north west of Takaka itself. It operates of a main 842m long seal 36/18 and a 604m long gravel 11/29. Takaka has an active aero club along with a few adventure operators and is commerically serviced by Golden Bay Air with a variety of aircraft.
There some cool short flight options with airports such as Nelson (NZNS), Motueka (NZMK) or Karamea (NZKM) in the area. Some longer options could include place like Westport (NZWS) Woodbourne (NZWB) or even Wellington (NZWN). Takaka does have IFR arrivals approaches and departures if you want to do some GA IFR flying for the evening.
After arriving, be sure to stick around to watch and listen to the other traffic coming in and out for the airport for the event, then why not pick a different airport to depart to and enjoy the fantastic scenery the area has to offer.
ATC
ATC for Core positions will be rostered on by the Events Director for Friday Fly-in events.
This decision was made due to the high interest in controlling and limited positions available.

Takaka is an uncontrolled airport with ATC provided by Christchurch Control above 9500ft and Nelson tower nearby as well. Both positions will be staffed for the event.
