Kicking off our first Friday Night Fly-in will be Feilding Airport!
Friday Night Fly-Ins are designed to bring the experience of a General Aviation fly-in to VATSIM. While we can't simulate the fun that fly-in's provide once you arrive, we can certainly provide the fun experience of actually flying in.
These events will be moving around airports in NZ and could be Controlled and Un-controlled airports but the flying is primarly focus on VFR flying.
Fly-in time is scheduled for 8:30pm NZ time, (0730 UTC) so plan to arrive at Feilding around then.
Located just north of Palmerston North (NZPM), Feilding airport (NZFI) is a small general aviation airport with a 1km long seal runway, 10/28, and a patch of grass commonly used by sheep or aircraft wanting to land on the grass.
Short flight options including flying in from Paraparaumu (NZPP) or Whanganui (NZWU) which are about 30 minute flights depending on the aircraft.
If you want the IFR option, you could opt to fly IFR to Ohakea (NZOH) or Palmerston North and either land, transition to VFR and proceed to Fielding, or fly the IFR approach to circling minimums and then break off to Fielding VFR.
After arriving, you could either stick around and watch other aircraft arrive, prep to fly out of Fielding again to another airport, or just log off.
ATC
There may be ATC provided covering the Ohakea and Palmerston airspace and beyond. While Fielding sits outside of controlled airspace, you could have fun transiting controlled airspace if ATC is online given Fielding's close proximity to both Ohakea and Palmerston.
