Which Controller do I call for a clearance?
Sometimes, there are no aerodrome controllers online, particularly at secondary airports.
However, there may be enroute controllers covering each sector online. So when this occurs, which controller and frequency should be used to call for a clearance?
The diagram below shows the airspace covered by each enroute controller.
If one sector is not online, an adjacent sector may provide ATC; however, this is not always the case and is up to the individual controller at the time. Refer to the Controller Info, where each area controller should specify the sectors covered. Frequently, only one controller may be online, covering all six NZZC sectors. This does not show on services such as VatSpy and does not show in the pilot client. Therefore, checking the Controller Info is essential. Refer to the diagram below:
